Slow Down and Enjoy the Waves
Have you ever sat and watched the waves on a lake? The slow, subtle waves continuously flowing, so gracefully and peacefully. There’s something so calming about watching a lake glide and flow.
Today, I decided to go our local lake, sit on a park bench alone and enjoy the silence of the waves. Lately, I’ve been feeling like everything in my life is just go, go, go. No stopping to take a breather. I’m always making plans with others or at work or running around doing who knows what. I love constantly being active and keeping my mind busy, but I haven’t taken the time to sit and enjoy my blessings.
I believe that we are always on the go. Dropping the kids off at soccer practice, trying to make that deadline for work, planning for your wedding, dealing with crippling anxiety. It’s human nature to keep moving through life. Where in that constant movement are we finding time to focus on ourselves? I think sometimes we are lucky if we remember to feed ourselves, I know I forget(more than I’d like to admit). Trust me, I get it. It’s hard to sit and be still. Tell my anxiety to chill the hell out and see what happens.
As I sit here and listen to the flowing water and the birds sing, I am hit with this wave of serenity. I am envious of the water that flows each and every day without worry of what’s going to come at them next. I believe we all need to be a little more still. Make the time to sit and enjoy the stillness in life. Sit with your thoughts, take deep breaths and enjoy the silence. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but you are worth every moment, every breath, every word, every thought. It’s ok to take a moment to yourself every once in awhile. Even if you have to hide in your bathroom away from everyone for one minute, do it. You are your number one priority, so take a moment to enjoy the waves and the silence in life. Stop trying to continuously rush through life. Life is way too short to be running through everything. Sit down and just breathe.
