Shoutout To All My Ladies

Tonight, I was in my favorite store (for those of you who know me, you know where I was) casually browsing for a cute dress to wear on my upcoming vacation when I overheard two other girls talking. Now, before you go and say I was eavesdropping on their conversation, they were literally standing right next to me and I can’t just turn my hearing off. ANYWAYS. They were looking at a particular piece of clothing that just so happened to be camouflage and commenting on how ugly it was. The one girl then proceeded to bring up another girl whom she went to high school with who wore a camouflage dress to her prom. “Oh God, it was seriously hideous. Why would anyone think that’s a good idea,” she said to her friend. “Some girls just don’t have taste,” the friend responded back.

LADIES LISTEN UP. It is 2019 and we are STILL trash talking other women. Why are we wasting our breath saying unkind, fowl things about other women when there is enough of that from the media alone? Don’t get me wrong, I am no saint and I am guilty of this myself, but this should not still be a thing. How many years have we been told how to dress? How to act? How to smile? How to talk? WAY TOO MANY. It’s time we start ENCOURAGING and UPLIFTING the women in our lives! Not only in our lives, but if you see a woman in public and you think she’s rocking that polka dress with leopard print heels, TELL HER! Just because someone’s style may not be yours does not mean we have to comment on it. I know we’ve all heard it numerous times, but seriously ladies, if you do not have something kind to say, don’t say it. We need to be constantly encouraging women to be the absolute best they can be. Why is it that we are so quick to jump down a man’s throat when they say something discouraging about a woman, but when another woman says something we just sit in silence? Riddle me that.

I hear the conversation I heard tonight way too often and it truly breaks my heart. I realize that as humans we are not always going to like another person. That’s human nature! What’s not acceptable is the constant judging and prejudice we give off towards other women. Since the beginning of time, women have been fighting for their place in society. Today, there are currently 87 women in the House of Representatives fighting for our rights. Almost 20% of our active duty members are female. More and more women are creating their own companies and becoming boss babes. For heaven’s sake, we’ve had women command space shuttles! HEAR ME OUT LADIES. People are not going to stop judging women if we, as women, don’t stop first! Change your outlook on how another woman may do something. Everyone’s lifestyles are different. That’s what makes each and every human incredibly unique and interesting. If a woman wore a camouflage dress to prom, instead of talking behind her back about how hideous it was, go tell her how cool it is that she decided to stand out and do something different! Let’s not demoralize, but INSPIRE women to love each other and become badasses! 2019 can and WILL be the year of the woman if we advocate for one another.
